Catholics---why doesn't 1 apostle in the new testament forgive someones sins?

Priests don't forgive sins, God does. The priest just hears the sin and offers up counseling and asks you to pray for forgiveness. Besides that you've taken a verse out of context, it was actually the pharasees that said that and your forgetting the verse where Jesus says, "whoevers sins you forgive will be forgiven."
